At the Table with Dr. King gives students and their teachers an opportunity to take a journey through the American Civil Rights Movement using the power of music, media, and song. Using the lives and legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s and other prominent figures from the era as examples, the At the Table with Dr. King presentation invites students to start answering the call upon their own lives and to discover the responsibility they have to their communities.
Dave LeMieux and House of Soul understands the power of music and its historic contribution to our nation’s forward cultural progress. At the Table with Dr. King is an interactive program with extensive student involvement! Students are able to engage with their school communities on topics ranging from race, class, and religion to present day social justice issues. They are also able to hear the stories and experiences of individuals in their school communities who serve as living historians, recounting the Civil Rights Movement from their points of view. Dave LeMieux and House of Soul also partners with outside organizations, giving students an opportunity to volunteer and contribute within their larger communities.
